Growth Management Committee Update
The Growth Management Committee co-chairs, Ronnie Rushing and Dawn Brown, recently presented a recommendation from the GMC to the Board for consideration, which outlined three options:
• Construction of Elementary #7 based on the LaRue Miller prototype. Based on demographic data, this facility may be needed for the 2012-2013 school year
• An addition to Frank Seale Middle School in order to expand its capacity from 1,000 students to 1,200 students. It is projected this addition would meet the needs of the district through 2016.
• Construction of a second high school within the district. This high school would be built for a capacity of 2,500 students and would be done in two phases.
While the committee has worked very hard over a number of meetings to reach its conclusions, they realize that the Board is responsible for determining "the who, the what, the when, the where and the how" of the recommendation and that the board must balance the facility needs of the district with its demographics and financial capacity while considering the current and projected future economic environments.
Irvin Elementary Gymnasium
On May 17, Leesa Vardeman with VLK Architects presented the School Board the results of the feasibility study, which outlined items that need to be addressed prior to MISD’s reoccupation of the JR Irvin Gymnasium.
