Substitute Information

Substitute applications are located at the front desk of the Administration Building. After an application has been completed, you will have to come to 100 Walter Stephenson Road. Bring your driver’s license, social security card, and high school diploma, college transcripts and teaching certificate if applicable, with you when you submit the packet. You will also need the social security number of a beneficiary to complete the FICA alternative program form.

Certified teachers with at least one year of teaching experience can be added to our automated substitute finder, AESOP, after interviewing with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Other subs must attend a substitute training class and pass administrative screening before they can be activated in the system. The training class is currently offered in January of each year. Other training sessions will be scheduled as needed. All substitutes are subject to a criminal record check before activation in AESOP.

Midlothian ISD pays $55 per day for substitutes with a high school diploma or GED, $60 per day for substitutes with a four-year college degree, and $70 per day for substitutes with teacher certification from any state. For substitute terms for the same teacher for longer than 10 consecutive days, the pay increases to $90, $100, and $120 for each level of certification. If a substitute is used for a paraprofessional, the rate is $55 per day regardless of the certification level.

Questions about the AESOP system can be directed to Lisa Garrison or 972-775-8296 from 8am until 4pm.

Substitute Teacher Training

The fall semester Substitute Teacher Training has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 29th.  This training is required for you to be placed on the substitute list.  If you have had prior substitute training in Midlothian ISD, you are not required to attend this training.

The session will be held in the Board Room of the Administration Building at 100 Walter Stephenson Road.  The training session will begin promptly at 8:00 and will end at noon.

At this session you will find out information about completing paperwork, how to access the campuses, information regarding confidentiality, our expectations for you as a substitute, and classroom strategies to assist you in working with MISD students.  You will also view a video on Bloodborne Pathogens, which is a requirement before you can work with students.

If you have any questions or concerns about this training or your particular situation, please email Judy Walling or call Lisa Garrison, at 972-775-8296 between 8:00a and 4:00p.
