Responsibilities

Library Media Specialists are assigned at every elementary and secondary campus in Midlothian ISD.

As designers of media instruction, the primary duty of the Library Media Specialist is to initiate and participate in curriculum development. While collaborating with teachers, the Library Media Specialist (LMS) will recommend media applications, information literacy strategies, and reading literacy approaches to be used for instruction.

Working closely with the Campus Technology Liaison (CTL) and the building principal, the LMS will determine the training needs of teachers and make arrangements with the district Technology Trainers to provide training relevant to the needs of the campus.

Library Media Specialists are knowledgeable in the areas of technology resources, online databases, budget management, collection development, website production, copyright and intellectual freedom issues.

Library Media Specialists attend monthly meetings with the Instructional Technology Coordinator.
