Message concerning FlashAlert
Many Midlothian parents and staff are subscribed to receive FlashAlert emergency emails and/or text messages. Once a year, they must confirm that they wish to continue receiving these messages.
If you wish to continue and have not already done so, please go to www.flashalert.net/login.html and enter your primary email address and password. Check that all your addresses are correct and then select "Click here to send test messages and complete the registration process" to update. If you do not update your account, it will be deleted on September 15.
Please make sure that your cell phone text addresses are formatted correctly with 10 digits (AT&T example: 5035551212@txt.att.net). Or, consider a new, even faster option: Twitter.
FlashAlert now can distribute messages through Twitter. Twitter's relationship with the cell companies mean that our messages go through the cell companies' faster "back door," so we encourage you to use Twitter instead of registering your cell phone in the FlashAlert system. You can register for Twitter by cicking on the blue Twitter logo next to Midlothian's name in your FlashAlert account.
Again, to continue receiving FlashAlerts, please log in to your account and launch a test message by September 15, 2009. |

Educators: Keep those receipts for your I.R.S. deduction
The Internal Revenue Service is reminding educators to save their receipts for purchases of books and other classroom supplies. They will be able to deduct up to $250 of such expenses again this year, following recently-enacted legislation. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 reinstated the educator expense deduction, which had expired at the end of last year. The deduction has been reinstated for tax years 2008 and 2009. Expenses incurred any time during 2008 may qualify for the deduction, not just those since the Act was signed on October 3. The deduction is available to eligible educators in public or private elementary or secondary schools. To be eligible, a person must work at least 900 hours during a school year as a teacher, instructor, counselor, principal or aide. An educator may subtract up to $250 of qualified out-of-pocket expenses when figuring adjusted gross income. This deduction is available whether or not the taxpayer itemizes deductions on Schedule A. Qualified expenses are non-reimbursed expenses paid or incurred for books, supplies, computer equipment including related software and services, other equipment, and supplementary materials that are used in the classroom. |

MISD
conveniently has a print shop with two duplicators and two copiers
designed to produce large amounts of print jobs. The print shop
stores different colors of paper: light blue, light pink, yellow,
light green, and goldenrod. All other color of paper, transparencies
and card stock must be provided by the sender. We have two different
sizes of white paper: 8½X11 and 8½X14. The district
encourages teachers and staff to submit print jobs that exceed 20
or pages per master to the print shop.
